May 31, 2020 SEWA: Industrial electricity usage down 28%, residential up 21%

Research and Studies department at Sharjah Electricity and Water Authority (SEWA) noted in its latest study that noted an increase of electricity consumption in the residential sector from the beginning of the current year until the end of April 2020 by 21.2%.

On the other hand, the same study showed that the electricity consumption decreased by 28.6% in the industrial sector, 6.6% in the commercial sector, and 2.7% in the government sector, compared to the same period in the previous year. 

Eng. Dr. Rashid Al Leem, Chairman of the Authority, highlighted that the remarkable increase in electricity consumption in the residential sector came as a result of precautionary measures to prevent the spread of the coronavirus. 

He also stressed that the authority is making great efforts to raising public awareness, especially in the residential sector, to rationalise consumption of electricity.
