April 27, 2017 SEWA highlights the challenges facing the Energy Sector & its Sustainability Strategy at Johannesburg International Power Conference

 

Addressing the 20th International Power Generation Conference recently held in Johannesburg - South Africa, H.E Dr. Rashid Al Leem, the Chairman of Sharjah Electricity & Water Authority (SEWA) highlighted the major challenges facing the energy sector in the region and the potential opportunities in the clean energy market as well as the efforts being made to maintain the natural resources. He briefed the International Conference about the creative initiatives launched by SEWA to achieve the sustainable development including the One Saving Hour which received overwhelming response in both local and international levels. He added that the One Saving Hour Initiative is designed to draw the attention of the decision-makers, leaders and policy-makers as well as all categories of the society to the importance of saving power during the peak times to ensure the stability of the power grids and the uninterrupted supply of power as per the latest global standards.

The keynote paper presented by H.E Dr. Rashid Al Leem in the conference covered a number of innovative solutions adopted by of Sharjah Electricity & Water Authority in the field of the power management including the smart grids and meters as well as SEWA’s future power strategy designed to ensure the ideal usage and maintain acne of the natural resources.  

The Chairman indicated that the participation of Sharjah Electricity & Water Authority in this vital event comes in line with its present policy to avail of the global experiences and exchange information with the major world leaders, experts and decision- makers of energy sectors taking part in the 20th International Power Generation Conference. He described the event as an important platform for showcasing the state-of-the-art and smart solutions and technologies in the field of power generation, distribution and transmission as well as the innovations and creative technologies recently developed to ensure the suitability of the natural resources and achieve the required balance between the power offer and demand by the energy beneficiaries and the governments.

It is worth mentioning that the 20th International Power Generation Conference discussed numerous papers presented by leading power experts and decision-makers from all parts of the world. The international conference issued several important recommendations in the fields of power management and the smart solutions and technologies.

The conference called for the need to unite global efforts to raise awareness of the importance of optimal use of energy and water, go to the production of clean and renewable energy and take all actions that ensure the preservation of the environment
