February 23, 2019 U.N. grants SEWA achievement certificate

Dr. Engineer Rashid Al Leem, Chairman of SEWA, expressed his happiness about the Authority’s reception of this international certificate from the United Nations for Climate Change for the second year in a row, noting that SEWA has considered commitment to sustainable development as one of its strategies and priorities through employment of Knowledge and innovation, and sustainable green growth to ensure economic prosperity and environmental sustainability as part of its vision to accelerate technology and innovation as an effective solution to confront the impacts of climate change. 

He added that EWAS’s obtainment of the certificate for the second consecutive year came as a result of the vision and directives of His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohamed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, to take all measures to ensure the preservation of the environment and compatibility with global trends to reduce carbon emissions and climate change. 

He explained that the Authority has developed a specific programme including the implementation of several projects that contribute to reducing carbon emissions such as solar street lighting projects and the use of advanced technology in the production of bottled water at the best quality, as well as raising the efficiency of plants’ production units, the abolition of paper bills transforming them into electronic ones, and the use of advanced programs in the completing of customer service transactions, all of which contributed to making this achievement.

He stressed that the Authority is keen to implement vital projects and develop their procedures in line with the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), which contributed to an international agreement to ensure practical and effective steps to reduce the impact of climate change.
