SEWA & Sharjah Charity Association launch their joint Initiative to help the needy families

42 bills of needy families of AED 150,000 paid with launch of the Initiative

In line with its commitment to support the community and help humans who experience difficulty in their life and in conjunction with the celebration of the 42nd National Day, Sharjah Electricity & Water Authority, in collaboration with Sharjah Charity Association, announced the launch of a charity campaign titled: “Enlighten Their Home With AED 2 Only”. The initiative aims to collect funds to pay the consumption bills of needy families who are unable to settle the same in order to avoid the disconnection of electrical, water and gas supplies to their premises and alleviate their suffering as the result of non-payment

The above announcement was made at a joint press conference held by Sharjah Electricity & Water Authority and Sharjah Charity Association at the General Directorate of Customer Service with the presence of Eng. Ibrahim Rashid Demas, the Director General of SEWA and Mr. Abdullah Sultan bin Khadem, the Executive Director of  Sharjah Charity Association. The initiative’s aim is to raise donations from both employees and customers to be allocated for settlement of the needy people’s bills.

With launch of the initiative in the press conference, first assistances under the initiative to the needy residents were announced.  The announced assistances cover payment of 42 power and water bills for needy customers with total amount of AED 150,000. The initiative, coincided with the country’s celebrations of the national days,  has brought happiness and joy to hearts of those poor and needy people.   

 Eng. Ibrahim Rashid Demas said that the first of its kind initiative, we launched today, comes in line with SEWA strategies to support and encourage all initiatives that serve and benefit the community and enhance the culture of charity works among the members of the society.

The Director General of SEWA affirmed the commitment of SEWA to collaboration with other authorities and departments in field of the charity works. The launch of this initiative in collaboration with Sharjah Charity Association, as strategic partner, indicates the growing recognition of the importance of the social responsibility.   He added that the initiative is introduced to help the needy people defaulting in payment of due consumption bills to avoid disconnection of power, water and gas supply to their premises as the result of such default.

He noted that a comprehensive plan is adopted to promote and raise the public awareness about the initiative through the media, banners of street lighting poles, vehicles of Sharjah Transport and SEWA bills. Special tours will be organized for the students to raise their awareness about the initiative.

Eng. Ibrahim Demas  expressed his appreciation for keenness of various authorities  and departments such as Sharjah Media Corporation, Shurouq, Sharjah Transport  and Sharjah Charity Association to sponsor the Initiative.

Speaking about the mechanism of the initiative, Mrs. Noor Al Nooman, Manager of the General Directorate of Customer Service pointed out that the donations will be collected through special boxes prepared by Sharjah Charity Association’ located at SEWA offices as well as premises of other establishments.  In next stage Etisalat will be approached to launch donation collection campaign via SMS. Mr. Noor added that requests by needy people for assistance to pay the bills shall be made at SEWA Customer Service Centres. Such requests for assistances will be considered by a joint committee from SEWA and Sharjah Charity Association to determine the eligible cases.

“Consumption Bills of the eligible cases will be paid from the collected funds to ensure the continuity of power and water supplies to those needy families and eliminate any inconveniency which may occur as the result of their failure to settle such bills” Mrs. Noor said.

On other hand, Mr. Abdullah Sultan bin Khadem, the Executive Director of  Sharjah Charity Association indicated that entering of Sharjah Charity Association into cooperation agreements with several educational, security and services entities including Sharjah Electricity & Water Authority come in line with visionary directives of the Association’s Board of Directors under the chairmanship of Sheikh Essam bin Saqar Al Qassimi, Chairman of the Ruler’s Office. He noted that the activities and initiatives made by the Association cover all the categories of the community.

The Executive Director of the Association praised the outstanding efforts made by SEWA to serve the community and collaborate with Association to support its charity works. He added the initiative of : “Enlighten Their Home With AED 2 Only” launched by SEWA  will make great contributions to mitigate the financial burdens and inconveniencies suffered by the needy families. He announced that Sharjah Charity Association in 2012 granted financial assistances of about AED 750,000 to needy families to enable them pay their electricity & water bill against AED 500,000 in 2013. He noted that the initial donations collected with launch of this initiative totalled AED150,000 paid to 42 eligible cases.

According to Mr. Abdullah Sultan bin Khadem, Sharjah Charity Association has launched several charity works and initiatives to help the needy families on the occasion of the 42nd UAE National Day.  

Sharjah Electricity & Water Authority was represented in the press conference by Eng. Ibrahim Rashid Demas, the Director General , Mrs. Noor Al Nooman, Manager of the General Directorate of Customer Service , Abdul Rahman Rashid Al Salman, the Manager of the PR Department and Mr. Hussein Askar, the  Manager of Customer Service Department.  On other pary the delegation of  Sharjah Charity Association comprised  of  Mr. Abdullah Sultan bin Khadem, the Executive Director of  the Assocaition, Abdullah Seif bin Hindi, the Manager of Administrative  Affairs, Mr. Rashid Salah bin Hamad, Head of Coupons & Containers Section, Mr. Abdullah Ahmed Al Hamadi, Head of PR  & Media Section and Mr. Hassan Saleh Al Ali, Head of Administrative  Affairs Section.
