Natural Gas Distribution
Using of Natural Gas as fuel
for vehicles:
The 1st Phase of this project
- which aim to apply the use of
the most efficient, cleanest and
safest fuel energy sources to
safeguard the environment &
public health and safety of the
society - was completed. It
covers the conversion of 300
vehicles of SEWA to use the
Compressed Natural Gas as fuel
instead of petrol.
His Highness Sheikh Sultan bin
Mohammed bin Sultan Al Qassimi,
the Crown Prince, Deputy Ruler
of Sharjah and Chairman of SEWA
Board of Directors opened the
first Station of Compressed
Natural Gas Filling for vehicles
-the first of its kind in UAE
and the Arabian Gulf Countries
Region- at Halwan area on
Saturday, 12 February, 2005.
As part of the efforts towards
achieving the ideal use of
Sharjah natural gas distribution
network and in line with efforts
made to utilize the natural gas
as a future strategic fuel
source as well as preserve the
environment, SEWA signed a
contract with Adnoc Distribution
to construct four CNG filling
stations during 2006 followed by
More CNG filling Stations in
order to meet the needs of
vehicles and cars owned by
Sharjah government departments
and authorities including
Sharjah transport, while the
taxi cars as well as cars owned
by private organizations and
individuals will be covered
latter.
Gas Supply to remaining
residential areas.
New gas installations were made
to supply gas to the commercial
and industrial areas (Al Nahda,
Al Khan and Al Mamzar).
Water Production &
Distribution:
Desalination plant and
units:
Unit No. 8 in Layyah
Desalination Plant has been
upgraded and refurbished.
New Well fields and boreholes.
Wadi Sa'adiah Well field
This well field is located
halfway between Tawi Mohafiz
and Tawi Nazwa. It was
commissioned in June, 28th 2005.
It consists of “28” produced
wells with 4.2 million gallon
per day available capacity.
Tawi Wahoosh Well field
This Well field was
commissioned in August, 10th
2005. It consists of “29”
produced wells with 4.4 mg per
day available capacity. It is
proposed to increase its
production from 3 to 5 mgd by
drilling 20 additional
boreholes.
New drilled boreholes
Five new boreholes are drilled at
Seih harmal Well field to
augment its yield to 2.25 mgd.

Section 2 - The under
progress & new Projects
Pursuant to the directives made
by His Highness Sheikh Dr.
Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qassimi,
member of Supreme Council and
Ruler of Sharjah who devotes
continuous attention and
unlimited support to the
modernization projects
especially those concerned with
infrastructure to enhance the
development in various fields
and in response to his concern
to ensure the best modern living
standards for both nationals and
residents. H.H Sheikh Sultan
bin Mohammed Bin Sultan Al
Qassimi, the Crown Prince,
Deputy Ruler of Sharjah and the
Chairman of SEWA’s Board of
Directors endorsed the 2006
budget of SEWA amounting to Dhs
3,394,000,000. The budget
allocates an amount of Dhs
1,552,172,000 for operating
expenses, running expenses and
the semi capital expenses while
Dhs 1,841,828,000 is allocated
for the new projects. Following
are some of these projects:
Administration buildings:
Construction of new building for
Qasimiyah Branch Office is
accomplished. Shifting to the
new building took place in May
2006.
Extension to the Head Office will be
constructed with AED 5 million
cost
Electricity Generation:
Establishment of Hamriyah
Station for Elec. Generation &
Water Desalination:
Work was started to develop this
new power in Hamriyah town. The
first phase of the project
comprised of four Frame 9 gas
turbines of 100 MW capacity
each. The first and second
phases of gas turbines
commissioned in June and July
2006 respectively while the
third and fourth gas turbines
will be commissioned in
December 2006 and February 2007
respectively.
The total cost of the Phase 1 is
AED 965 million, out of which
AED 650 million for supply,
installation and commissioning
of four gas turbines and 2
emergency generators of 100 MW
capacity each, AED 45.5 million
for the civil works relating to
the new turbines, AED 65 million
for the civil works relating to
the new station, AED 84 million
for supply, installation and
commissioning of switchgears and
equipment of 220/132 KV
Substation, AED 55 million for
land reclamation works of Phase
1 , AED 50 million for 132 KV
transmission substation and
33KV Distribution Substation
including the civil works, AED 9
million for construction of 2
fuel tanks and 2 firefighting
tanks, AED 8 million for
construction of the compound
wall, AED 6 million for
construction of the
administration building, stores
and workshops, AED 1.5 million
for two supply of cranes for the
new station
Wasit Power Station:
Phase 6 of Wasit Power Station
Project, comprises of two Rolls
Royce Aero Derivative Gas
Turbines of 50 MW capacity each
will be commenced. Both units
are scheduled to be commissioned
by 2007 with total cost of AED
155 million.
Layyah Power Station:
Amendment of conrol &

of AED 17 million as follows: 86
km of 630 mm dia cables, 28.6 km
of 400 mm dia. And 11.4 km of
400 mm dia. single cables to
reinforce the network.

distribution substations in

Natural Gas Distribution
Use of CNG as Fuel for Vehicles:
Phase 2 of this pioneering and
vital project reflecting the
commitment of SEWA to
maintenance of environment and
public health, will be started
soon. Phase 2 of the CNG driven
vehicles project will cover the
conversion of vehicles and cars
belong to the local government
departments and authorities of
Sharjah such Sharjah as well as
taxis and vehicles and cars
belong to the individuals and
private companies to use natural
gas as fuel instead of petrol. A
number of vehicles gas filling
stations will be established in
Sharjah to supply such vehicles
and cars with natural gas. The
project will promote the image
of SEWA as an environment
friendly organization and
enhance the efforts made seek
for cleanest renewable fuel
resources and ensure the
rational use of this strategic
energy resource to protect the
environment

Layyah Desalination Plant:
MED Desalination unit with
capacity of million gallons per
day and R.O desalination unit of
5 million gallons per day will
be commissioned at Layyah Power
Station by 2007 with total cost
of AED 300 million including the
civil works, 4 boilers,
reclamation and sea backing
filling works.
Khorfakkan Desalination Plant:
R.O Desalination Unit of
capacity of 5 million gallons
per day and with total cost of
AED 90 million will commissioned
in Khorfakkan by Summer 2007.
Kalba Desalination Plant:
R.O Desalination Unit of
capacity of 2 million gallons
per day commissioned in Kalba in
June 2006 with total cost of AED
50 million including sea water
pumping house.
Two underground water storage
tanks of capacity of 3 million
gallons per day each and with
total cost of AED 8 million
will be completed and
commissioned by 2007
Compound wall, office building

raw from underground springs.
Zulal factory will shift to its
new location in 2007.

new g gallon line of 2000
bottles/hours with AED 4.5
million cost will be
commissioned by the end of 2006.
A
new R.O plant of 0.5 million
gallons per day capacity and 3
stainless steel tanks, with AED
0.5 million will be provided at
the new location.
Control Center:
Projects of AED 30 million will
