Mr. Hamid Tahir Mohammed, the
Manager of Customer Service
Directorate, stated that the
monthly subscription fees
collected as meter charges, for
residential units, have been
increased from AED 5 to AED 20
for water each and gas and AED
30 for electricity.
He pointed out that SEWA by
increasing the service fees, has
assumed the responsibility of
maintaining and repairing the
service meters or arranging
replacements in case of any
damages. This responsibility
will also covers the
transformers of the residential
buildings and towers. He added
that the main aim of fees being
collected against subscription
to SEWA services, is to improve
the services offered to
customers.
"The value of each meter is
about AED 500, however with the
installation and inspection
charges, its cost amounts to
about AED 1200. The maintenance
of each building transformer
costs about AED 2500 per annum.
With the new fees SEWA will bear
all related costs. Same
arrangement is being applied in
the neighbouring GCC countries
where consumers are charged with
about AED 40 against each meter"
Mr. Hamid said.
He highlighted the fact that
customers will be charged
against actual readings around
the year, unlike estimated
readings previously applied
during some months which were
causing confusion for the
customers due to the fluctuation
of their consumption rates.
As regards to complaints in
connection with high service
fees for certain residents (AED
100 for electricity and AED 50
for water), Mr. Hamid pointed
out that such residents are
staying at units categorized as
commercial status. They can
approach us and forward their
lease contracts in order to
adjust their service fees to
residential status. |
