As per instructions of His
Highness Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed
Al Qassimi, the Member of
Supreme Council and Ruler of
Sharjah and in line with great
attention devoted by H.H to
achieve the comprehensive
development and meet the
requirements of electrical,
water and national gas for
domestic, commercial and
industrial sectors. His Highness
Sultan bin Mohammed bin Sultan
Al Qassimi, the crown Prince,
Deputy Ruler of Sharjah and
Chairman of SEWA, signed two
contracts of AED 561.4 million
for implementation of
Desalination Plant Project –
Phase 1 at Hamriyah Station of
20 million gallons per day and
installation of new gas turbine
of 50 MW at Khorfakkan. The
signing ceremony took place at
the Ruler's Office on Thursday,
the 25th October
2007. The first contract signed
by His Highness the Crown Prince
and the Director General of Aqua
Engineering GMBH – Austria will
cover the development of
desalination plant at Hamriyah
Power Station with total cost of
AED 446.1 million. This cost
covers the desalination systems
and equipments, civil works,
supply, installation and
commissioning of the new
desalination plant. The new
desalination plant is scheduled
to be manufactured by the end of
Summer 2009 and commissioned by
the beginning of Summer 2010.
It is worthy mentioning that
Aqua Engineering GMBH has an
extensive experience in
installation of desalination
plant in UAE.
The second contract signed by
His Highness the Crown Prince
and the Vice Precedent of Pratt
& Whitney Power Systems Inc. USA
will cover supply, installation
and commissioning of Aero
Derivative Gas Turbine of 50 MW
with total cost of AED 115.4
million (US $ 31.4 million)
including costs of civil work at
Khorfakkan Power Statio., The
new unit is expected to be
commissioned by Summer 2009.
The Gas Turbine of Aero
Derivative is featured by the
flexible and easy operation
particularly in emergency cases
and low running cost.

Inc. is a leading supplier of
the most advanced power and jet
gas turbines as well as power
systems.
His Highness the Crown Prince
expressed thanks and
appreciation to His Highness the
Ruler of Sharjah for his
continues support to the
development projects to render
better services to both national
and residents. H.H stated that
development projects initiated
by SEWA are steps ahead towards
a bright future.
Engineer Al Waleed Khalid bin
Khadem, the Director General of
SEWA pointed out that the
execution of these vital
projects comes in line with the
visionary instructions of His
Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan Bin
Mohammed Al Qassimi. The Member
of the Supreme Council and the
Ruler of Sharjah to cope pace
with the on-going industrial,
constructional and civilization
boom witnessed in the Emirate of
Sharjah, and meet the current
water and power demand which
registered an increase rate of
8% - 10% per annum and to
improve the services and
utilities.
Engineer Waleed praised the
unlimited support of His
Highness Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed
Al Qassimi, the Member of
Supreme Council and Ruler of
Sharjah to the projects and
expansions of the comprehensive
development process in
particular those relating to the
infrastructures of electricity,
water. He added that these
development projects are being
initiated under the direction of
His Highness Sultan bin Mohammed
bin Sultan Al Qassimi, the crown
Prince, Deputy Ruler of Sharjah
and Chairman of SEWA.
Eng. Waleed concluded that the
Generation and Desalination
Expansion Projects will provide
capacities of 140 million
gallons of drinking water and
2580 MW of electricity to cover
the additional water and power
requirements of the Emirate till
2018 Mr. Waleed said that the
new generation plants proposed
to be installed in the next
phases of Hamriyah Power Station
Expansion Project will be based
on the Combined Cycle System
which is featured with high
productivity and efficiency and
low fuel and operation costs.
On the field of power
generation, the phases of
expansion project will be
completed by 2018 to raise the
total generation capacity of
Hamriyah Power Station to 2850
MW out of which 400 MW already
provided in Phase 1, 250 MW in
Phase 2 and 1625 MW in five
phases to be executed during the
period from 2011 to 2018 with
rate of 325 MW at each phase.
On the field of water
desalination, By 2021, Hamriyah
Power Station will be provided
with total desalination capacity
of 140 million gallons of
drinking water per day with
installation of five R.O plants
with total capacity of 20
million gallons per day in 2010,
and M.E.D desalination plants
with total capacity of 20
million gallons per day in 2011
while the period between 2013 to
2021 will witness the provision
of 80 million gallons per day
with the rate of 20 million
gallons per day in each two
years.
