supply at most areas of
Sharjah city and improve
our water storage
capabilities in order to
avoid any water
shortage.
Eng, Essam Amin, the
Manager of Water DST &
Transmission stated that
the commissioning of Al
Jubai - Al Fisht
Pipeline has remarkably
resolved the problems of
water shortages at most
of the affected areas in
Sharjah city such as Al
Jubail, Al Ghowair, Al
Naba'a, Al Butaina,
Sharqan, Qadissia, Al
Fisht, Al Ghafia, Umm
Khanoor (Al Sabkha), Al
Nikhailat, Al Murqab and
Nassiriyah.
He added that problems
related to water
shortage will be
eliminated at all areas
of Sharjah with the
completion of the second
phase of the pipeline
project, being laid
between Al Fisht and
Halwan Pumping &
Distribution Plant, by
August 2007 to reinforce
the water distribution
network in the current
summer because the
pipeline will pump the
water supply directly
from Layyah Power
Generation & Water
Desalination Station.
The total length of this
32 inch (800mm) dia.
water main is estimated
to about 10 km.
He indicated that SEWA
is currently
implementing several
ambitious development
projects to provide
uninterrupted water
supply in summer.
However, he put emphasis
on the important role of
the customers in
conserving water
consumption. He urged
the owners of buildings
and villas to construct
underground tanks at
their properties to
provide sufficient
supply in case of any
emergency or technical
failure. He indicated
that most of water
shortage complaints
reported to the
Directorate of Water and
Emergency Sections are
attributed to
non-availability of
underground tanks at the
affected residential
buildings as the
overhead tanks will not
cover the needs of the
dwellers in case of any
emergency.
