The Ruler issues a decree on
establishment of Public
Utilities Maintenance Department
His Highness
Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohd. Al-Qassimi,
the Member of the Supreme
Council and Ruler of Sharjah
issued a decree on establishment
of Public Utilities Maintenance
Department in the Emirate of
Sharjah. The new department
which will be affiliated to the
Ruler’s Office, will be based in
Sharjah City and may set up its
branch offices in other cities
of the Emirate.
As per the
decree, the new department shall
be responsible for maintenance
of the public utilities and
services, recommend the
necessary maintenance works,
supervise the contracts of
maintenance works and define the
necessary fund allocations for
such work. The responsibilities
of the new department also
include following up the
progress of maintenance
contracts, implementation of
small constructions, preparing
the quantities and scope of
works relating to the
maintenance works of the public
utilities in collaboration with
the concerned departments
providing the government with
technical advice and assistance
on all matters relating to its
activities and carrying out any
tasks referred to it by the
Ruler or the Executive Council.

Decree will be issued on the
appointment of the Director
General of the new department
who shall issue the necessary
executive and internal rules and
regulations to implement the
provisions of this decree.
The new
department may enter into
contracts with consulates and
contractors, supervising the
progress of their maintenance
works and approving their due
payments in coordination with
concerned departments.
The new
department shall submit
periodical reports on its
activities and works and
recommendations for resolving
any problems and obstacles.
As per the
decree, the new department shall
be the competent local authority
responsible for the maintenance
of the public utilities in the
Emirate of Sharjah. However,
the maintenance works of the
following authorities and
departments are excluded from
the maintenance works provided
for under this decree: Sharjah
Electricity & Water Authority,
Sharjah International Airport
Authority and Department of Sea
Ports & Customs.
The new
department will be exempted from
all government duties, taxes and
fees. |
