Government of Sharjah largely cares in providing all the essential services that provide the public a decent life … of these is the production of the desalinated water in large quantities that may reach the vicinity of (80) million gallons per day, thus the quantity produced is considered very precious and we must conserve its consummation for greater benefits.

The statistical figures issued in this regard show that the average consumption of fresh water of an individual in U.A.E. reaches approximately 500 liters daily, this figure is un-doubly the highest consumption rate in the world in spite of the low annual rates of rainfalls as well as the large areas of desert that cover 74% of the state's area.

The figures issued also stress to the point that the large demand for water comes from the agricultural sector followed by domestic & industrial usages.  It's expected that water demand will be risen in the agricultural sector to reach approximately 70%.

These significant stated figures & facts impose on everyone to be aware of the cost of a single drop and how to acquire a greater benefit from the water through observing better water observation which is considered as a national & religious behavior.

Therefore, it is essential for all to cooperate in taking care of water sources which represent the ground & desalinated water.  And in order to accomplish this goal, we shall introduce you in this manual to a number of instructions which have to be observed while conserving water.

·   Using the best watering system among the modern irrigation techniques such as sprinkling and watering-pot and growing the suitable plants.

·   The possibility of using protective or plastic coverings that contributes in conserving water consumption through reducing water evaporation.

·   It is better to irrigate that garden and the plants with the ground water and it is really a practical method to clean our dwellings.

·   The using of a special type of humus around the plants to maintain water for a longer period though absorbing it and preventing it from infiltrating towards the bottom of the ground.

·   Planting plants that do not need large quantities of water and that endure a high proportion of saltiness.

·   Use of new cocks specially designed to restrict consumption of water through using a special technical apparatus that regulate water flow and consequently lead to the decrease of consumption.

·   Cleaning of lavatories must be done through using a small piece of wet rag instead of using hose.

·   Water tab must opened moderately when ablutions bathing, shaving or brushing teeth.

·   Your children must be taught to use bath shower instead of bath tub when having a bath.

·   The regular maintenance of water pipes inside dwellings by repairing any leakage or crack in the pipes or taps as soon as possible.

·   When washing and cleaning utensils, it is advisable to fill up kitchen basin with approximately 5 gallons of water to use it in washing and rinsing instead of consuming nearly (30) gallons of running water.  The same procedure must be observed in washing and cleaning fruits and vegetables which might contribute in saving (8) gallons of water.
