  Introduction  
 

The Emirate of Sharjah is undergoing tremendous economical, industrial and civilization development boom to meet the challenges and requirements of Today's world.

 Inspired by the visionary directives of  His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan Bin Mohammed Al-Qassimi, Member of Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah, SEWA has managed to make great strides in developing the sectors of electricity, water and natural gas in the Emirate of Sharjah.

Under the guidance of His Highness Sheikh Abdullah bin Salim Al Qassimi, the Deputy Ruler of Sharjah and Chairman of SEWA Board of Directors, ambitious expansions and development projects were implemented by SEWA to cope pace with the comprehensive development process coupled tremendous constructional expansions witnessed in the Emirate of Sharjah.

As a result of these achievements,  the sectors of Electricity, Water and Natural Gas have witnessed tremendous growth.

Electrical power: Several new generation units, distribution and transmission substations were installed to raise the power generation, distribution and transmission capacities. By November 2008, the power generated units totaled 9125.7 million KWh. 

Water supply: Similar growth trend was witnessed in field of water supplies with the commissioning and development of more desalination plants and wellfields. As consequence, the total  water production amounts to 29,269 million gallons by October 2008 i.e. an average of 87.8 MGPD. 

Piped natural Gas service was introduced by SEWA for domestic, commercial and industrial purposes with total cost of AED 600 million.  is under progress. By end of  2008, about 132000 residential and commercial units and villas were connected with the piped gas network. In early 2009, Phase 1 of Eastern Zone Gas Distribution project will commissioned.

Another project within the framework of SEWA policy to exploit the feasibility of natural gas as an efficient fuel, that is the use of compressed natural gas (CNG) as fuel for vehicles instead of petrol is in progress.

In line with job emiratization policy, the number of the national employees increased to 1207 by November 2008.

Sharjah Institute of Technology was established by SEWA in 2003. The number of students registered at Men's Division totaled 493 against 102 female students studding at the Ladies Division which was introduced in the academic year 2005/2006.

SEWA is always committed to provide high quality supply of electricity, water and gas, and continuously develop its facilities to achieve the excellence in securing reliable services that would meet the growing demand and exceed the future needs and expectations of our customers who totaled 298,898 by October 2008. Several the e-facilities such as the on-line bill payments and payments through the banks and Emirates post were introduced to provide more convenient services for the customers.
